On page SEO: Easy was to improve your website

On page SEO is a hugely important part of building a website with good SEO. Off page SEO can help, but if your content is not good, off page SEO is useless.

What is on page SEO?

On page SEO, is the optimising of your own website in order to rank better in the search engines. This could include editing your HTML, improving your website structure and so on. It can also be used to optimise an article for a certain keyword or phrase. It is important to have good on page SEO before you move on to link building (off page SEO.) Here are some tips on how you can improve your, on page SEO.

Unique Content- Content that is unique and relevant can give you a huge SEO boost. Google wants fresh content, so avoid using duplicate content or article spinners.

Contact/About me pages- These are great as you can put them together in a few minutes and you can then get them indexed. They are also unique and fresh so you can get a decent SEO boost.

Keeping your content fresh- Having fresh content and adding new articles regularly is very good for search engine optimisation, as it makes your site more relevant. If you have a website and you are trying to rank it, try making a blog as this can increase your traffic and page rank.

Bigger text, Italics, capitalising, bolding- A lot of people say that text that is bigger than the surrounding text is seen as more important. The same goes for italics, capitalising and bolding the text. However, don't over do this as it will work against you.

Spread out your content- If you have a page with a lot of content, consider spreading it across multiple pages, as short, focused pages can rank higher.

Heading tags- Place your keywords in heading tags, as google adds more weight to these words. They look like this: <H1> <H2> etc.

Keyword optimisation- Focus on one keyword/ keyword phrase per page as this can help your page rank better.

Keyword Placement- Place the keywords you are targeting at the start of your article. This doesn't mean that you should stuff them into 1 sentence, but include them in your first paragraph.

Alt Tags- Place your keywords in alt tags. Googles' spiders can't read images, but they do read your explanation of your images and you can give them a description via <alt> tags.

Secondary Keywords- Another important on-page SEO factor is secondary keywords. This is a very important on page factor as your secondary keywords can rank extremely well. Secondary keywords are even more important if composition for your main keyword is fierce.

Anchor Text- If you are internally linking your site (linking from one page of your website to another) make sure you use your keywords in the anchor text.

Target Questions- Lots of people search questions to find what they are looking for. Therefore, you should target questions with some of your content. A good way to do this is to use your question as anchor text when linking to other web pages on your site.
